In Memoriam: Vigo d’Arsouilles (1998 –2019)

The colic attack that fell our big friendly giant Vigo d’Arsouilles last weekend took us by surprise. All of a sudden, the 2010 World Champion passed away, leaving us behind with utter sadness. But although he lost this battle, he will continue to live in his numerous offspring.

World Champion

Vigo d’Arsouilles was born in 1998 in the stables of his breeder Didier Viaene. In 2001, he was approved for BWP. Later on, he became a BWP-ambassador and he would also be approved for SBS, Holstein, SF, KWPN and OS. His sire was  our other legend-that-passed-away-too-soon, Nabab de Rêve, and his mother was named Illico d’Arsouilles, a daughter of Fleuri du Manoir. His damline is brimming with horses that jumped at the highest level, but his own tale is mainly written by becoming World Champion in 2010 with Philippe Le Jeune. The latter was also very emotional following the news of the sudden death of his champion horse, witness thereof his posts on social media. Philippe and Vigo go way back. For more than six years, they jumped at an international level. With Philippe, Vigo not only became World Champion, but they also won several Nations Cups (for example La Baule and Gijon) and they won the GP of Royan. Enumerating his countless placings in other prestigious competitions would lead us too far, but it is clear that we could not have asked for much more of his sporting career.

Breeding Champion

Next to that, Vigo also became a breeding giant. Consistently, he blessed his offspring with his great heart, immeasurable scope and amazing mind. Think about Ego van Orti, Golden Hawk (ex-Figo de Muze), Irenice Horta, Vino Z, Funky Music, Go Easy de Muze, Sandor de la Pomme, Foica van den Bisschop, Donatella-N, Vagabond de la Pomme, Fair Light van ’t Heike and many others. It is now up to them to fill their father’s footsteps.

Rest in peace, Vigo!
